What a delight to give you a double whammy: not only an accomplished vocalist in the Baltimore region - but a venue owner whose Jazzway 6004 is known all over the world! Marianne Matheny-Katz has championed local talent for years and has featured both regional and international artists on her stage - at the elegant home that she shares with her husband, Howard. The debut CD that Marianne has recorded as "leader" doesn't indicate that this is her first rodeo :) FAR from it! She was making the rounds in her native New York as a folksinger, then delved into the Blues when she made the move to Maryland. Falling in love with Jazz was wonderfully organic through the years - and she paints a most loving picture of cherished standards and surprising personal picks on "Somewhere in Paradise." This project is not just about Marianne, though, stupendously sincere as she is here bringing old songs to life. The overview of this pleasing array of songs is focused on the "team" - an unbelievable collection of respected musicians who Marianne has seen grow and flourish over several years. Tim Green is one of those amazing artists - as is Warren Wolf, who serves as music director for some of these tracks. Bass clarinetist Todd Marcus is another who graces this satisfying disc - and the legendary Terell Stafford on trumpet. We'll talk about ALL of the talent utilized here when Marianne visits us on the show. Look for dates to hear our guest - she most certainly will take to the Jazzway 6004 stage soon - and she'll be making her way to Blues Alley in D.C. A brand new website is up and running at www.m2kjazz.com. And you can discover what's in store for her much acclaimed house concert venue at www.jazzway6004.org. Marianne's an award-winner - find out why, next time on "Hybrid Jazz!" The Chat Room awaits you :-D
